Unitarians were not "conventional Christians" in those times. The Founders "Christianity" had more in common with Deism (as Rev. Andy rightly states), Freemasonry (radical ecumenists), Rosicrucianism, Unitarianism and the "inner light" of Quakerism. These were the "liberal" spiritual expressions of the day and differed significantly from Calvinism, Puritanism, Anglicanism or the Great Awakening Christianity of its day.
