I will say this John, and either you or someone else commented upon Joe Scarborough's stance in the 1990's when he was in lockstep with Newt Gingrich's Contract ON America (imho). I would like to hear more from the Joe Scarboroug's and the Liz Cheneys and Adam Kinzingers on how their participation in right wing politics allowed Trump to emerge. Frankenstein did not fall from the sky. An eco-system had been building for years making it ripe for an autocratic authoritarian to emerge from the midst of their party. Perhaps you could say it started with Goldwater or Nixon or Reagan. Or maybe it has always exited in the right-wing shadowland of America when reactionary conservatism wore a different party's clothes. But clearly something more recent has directly allowed Trumpism to emerge. Don't get me wrong I applaud the Scarboroughs, Steve Schmidts, Liz Cheneys, (even Bill Barr this week, go figure) for chnanging colors and disassociating from the arch-conservative/autocratic wing of the GOP. But occasionally it might be nice for them to dissect how we got here and the role they played in it.
