I found your title a little off-putting at first but reading more deeply, I believe the Founders would concur with your perspective. After all Jefferson hoped the country would make wholesale governmental/constitutional changes every generation or so; today you have those who follow that sentiment by the Stephen Breyers who perceive a living, breathing constitution, not a biblical-like fundamentalism that our Federalist Society/Opus Dei court seems to prefer (and let's not kid ourselves, they prefer it when it suits their political expediences, not their purist constitutional perspective). In the end, the Founders did provide a vision and framework for an almost 250 year democratic-republic which is nothing to ignore; but it was one that they knew would not fully come to fruition in their lifetimes and could only come about with enlightened change.
