I am always overjoyed to hear of someone else of note— sometimes it is just a celebrity— discuss their life and the practice of meditation. From Alan Watts and the Beats , to the mystic Edgar Cayce, to the counterculture of the 60s, the Beatles and Maharishi, to Suzuki, Huston Smith, Aldous Huxley and the Zen meditators, meditation has quietly crept up, over decades, on American culture. We hear so much about evangelicalism and Christian Nationalism, but this quiet consciousness has been slowly emerging, and who knows? Such mindfulness may summon forth a consciousness that is the saving grace of a nation.
